Paris:
Yohji Yamamoto’s longstanding interest in volume was once again on prodigigious display in his S/S 13 show. Where many designers have shown a recent interest in exoticism and Eastern influences, Yamamoto, with his trademark pasha pants, reminded viewers of his rightful place as one of the main progenitors of this look. Indonesian-style florals and Southeast Asian geometrics underscored this fixation, while cropped trousers and artfully rumpled suit coats looked road weary, well traveled, and a touch beaten down. Yamamoto’s grooming choices reinforced this feel, as model’s sported bruises, cuts, and scrapes, all of which acted as visual displays of stoicism, and the transcendent power of fortitude.  —Andrew Luecke
