The Courrèges revival continues, with the latest S/S 13 collection reprising yet another well-edited selection of the designer’s classics in a variety of colors and signature fabrics. While we’d like to see more interpretation vs. straight-up reissued product, the spot-on retro styling and photography still looks fantastic 40+ years after the French label’s true heyday, conjuring the era when Courrèges (a veteran of Balenciaga’s studio) was the world leader of futuristic fashion alongside compatriot Pierre Cardin. Courrèges signatures like simple straight and A-line dresses and coats feature prominently in the S/S 13 collection, with sturdy double-faced fabrics, welted seams, shapely pockets, and high hemlines a further nod to the maestro’s design lexicon. For fans of his flat boots, logo bags, and eyewear- that’s all available once again too in Mod white and silver leathers.
As one of the few French houses to not undergo a major designer appointment in the past 2 years, here’s hoping a visionary creative director takes the reigns soon and moves Courrèges into the 21st century.
