Pop-up shops are a dime a dozen these days, so when the owners of cult favorite Odin decided to create one dedicated to the boutique’s line of unisex and home fragrances, they brought in a secret weapon: Snarkitecture, a super-buzzy design firm known for blurring the line between retail and art. Partners Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen created a stunningly dramatic installation fashioned out of thousands of Odin’s perfume bottles, cast in white gypsum cement, suspended from the ceiling and sprouting from the floor like stalactites and stalagmites in the world’s best-smelling cave.
Interspersed in the wondrous whiteness are actual bottles of Odin’s six fragrances, four home fragrances and four scented candles, all in their signature black packaging. The first fifty customers will receive a unique “artifact” in the form of their very own plaster Odin bottle, sure to become a collector’s item. Starting next week, covetable black-and-white tote bags will accompany each purchase, so get to the East Village and hit up this minimalist pop-up while supplies last! xx Ashley Churchill
