Trade Show | Best of Elements Showcase 2012

These are the highlights of the Elements Showcase August 2012.

Aug 22, 2012

The Elements Showcase  took place on Aug 20-21, 2012 in New York City featuring established and emerging visionaries in the world of fragrance and beauty design. Stay tuned for our full wrap of the show next week, but in the meantime, here are some noteworthy stand outs.

Agonist is a Swedish fragrance brand that launched in Nov 2008.  The collection of 6 fragrances is 100% natural, inspired by the Nordic climate and culture. Fragrances are artistically expressed in handcrafted glass sculpted  in collaboration with glass  artist Asa Jungnelius the prestigious at Kosta Boda.

This was JFK’s favorite fragrance. Parisian aristocrat Albert Fouquet was a perfume connoisseur who liked to create fragrances. One night in 1937 at the Cote d’Azur, Fouquet met a young John F Kennedy who showed interest in Fouquet’s cologne. The next day, Fouquet left JFK a sample at the hotel with a note that said, “In this bottle, you will find the dash of French glamour that your American personality lacks.” Back in Paris, Fouquet received a thank you letter from JFK who   requested eight samples “and if your production allows, another one for Bob (Robert Kennedy).”  Fouquet packed them in several boxes and labeled the bottles “Eight & Bob.” Soon he was flooded with requests from actors such as Cary Grant and James Stewart. Unfortunately, by the Spring of 1939, Albert died in an automobile accident. Philippe, his butler, packed the final orders inside books that he carefully cut by hand to prevent the Nazis from seizing the cologne. Today, the formula has been recovered and rebranded.

10 OVER 10
tenoverten is a stylish TriBeCa nail salon designed to “bring back the simple pleasure in getting a manicure and pedicure.” Owners Adair Ilyinsky and Nadine Ferber created a salon that’s meant to feel like an apartment with custom chairs and iPads at each manicure seat. The 5-free (no formaldehyde resin, camphor, formaldehyde, toluene or dibutyl phthalate) tenoverten polish line was introduced last year. Each color is named after the New York City streets.

Kjaer Weis is a directional, refillable, organic makeup brand created by Danish-born, New York based makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis. Raw materials, natural preservatives and pigments are extracted from minerals, plants and wild flowers specifically chosen for their color, scent and natural properties that have an affinity with the skin. There are no parabens, silicone, petrochemical emulsifiers, synthetic colors and fragrances.  The sculptural packaging was designed by Marc Atlan, made of Zamac with lids that slide open.

Fornasetti Profumi debuts their second scent, Flora di Fornasetti, in the form of a scented candle. Otto, the dark and moody first scent introduced in 2011, was designed to capture the essence of Fornasetti and the interior of the Fornasetti house in Milan. Otto is available as a candle, incense stick, or perfumed oils. Refusing to succumb to the seasonal fragrance cycle, Fornasetti packaged Otto in several elegant ceramic vessels with distinct motifs. Now, Fornasetti is ready to introduce Flora di Fornasetti. Flora was inspired by the lush flora that fills the gardens outside the Fornasetti hours.   The ceramic vessel is adorned with the haunting gaze of operatic muse Lina Cavalieri. A colorist was given the scent and assigned to express the scent through color. (Check out our Seeing Scent Report to see the relationship between color and fragrance). The colorist chose light, muted pastels to reflect the proper, sophisticated scent.
