United Bamboo

GENTLE ANDROGYNY
New York: United Bamboo’s chic schoolgirl muse is all grown up this season, with a Spring collection that reflected a new somber clarity for the New York based brand led by design duo Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham. Accompanied by the calm melodies of Japanese band Cibo Matto, it was clear the designers had discovered a new minimalistic approach. The looks consisted mostly of leather and linen combinations, with a scribbly watercolor print, that was peppered in on fluid silk frocks. Boyish basics like blazers, structured shorts and smart trousers felt fresh in a somber palette of neutrals, while a few flowy looks with crafty details like eyelets and embroidery rounded things out. Considered touches, like colorblocked cuffs, backless jackets and string straps tied in bows kept the overall feel charming and entirely wearable. —Shannon Davenport
