Bernhard Willhelm

WILD ABANDON
Paris: As much as Bernhard Willhelm is an experimental, edgy designer, he is also a dedicated fan of one of fashion’s most versatile items—the dress. Draped, twisted, shredded or gathered, Willhelm’s F/W 12 collection was an endless parade of voluminous frocks, though certainly not in the traditional sense of the word. These dresses were oversized, boldly colored, layered over leggings and printed with a wild mish-mash of graphic prints and message slogans, made sporty via drawstring details and asymmetry. The few ensembles that featured separates continued Willhelm’s love of athletic themes, showing off his signature irreverence with animal print bomber jackets and jumpsuits decorated with aggressive tiger graphics paired with chunky sneakers. —Nina Stotler
