SIXTIES SWING
London: Beloved London label PPQ made it clear from the start with aggressive 60s styling (manicured high ponytails and pale pink lipstick) that S/S 13 would be a retro affair. A bold paisley print, platform sandals and flared pajama pants fit right in with the literal nature of the presentation, as did groovy stretch jumpsuits and a-line minidresses. Off-the-shoulder tops in sailor stripes were the perfect compliment to cropped wasp-waist skirts, but the collection faltered when it strayed from swinging London references with walking shorts and heavy weekend bags. Longer lengths also did PPQ no favors, and the floor-length gowns closing the show broke the otherwise festive atmosphere.—Nina Stotler
