The influential vintage retailer resurrects the Frederick’s of Hollywood archives.
In this case, what’s come back around is the Frederick’s of Hollywood archives. Yes, that slightly sordid shop tucked in the corner of many a suburban mall, responsible for bringing G-strings to the masses.
Vintage retailer What Goes Around Comes Around have the business of upcycling kitsch down to a science, and now they’ve taken on the high-cut bodysuits, marabou-trimmed robes and Wonder Woman-inspired sets that once populated Frederick’s of yesteryear. It was all unveiled at a New York Fashion Week event last night at their spacious Astor Place pop-up shop in collaboration with Galore Magazine – a new publication that boasts a roster of model contributors and an aesthetic that looks to have stepped off the set of the movie Drive.
Decades later, the bondage-inspired pieces and 80s-tinged silhouettes look more appealing than, perhaps, they did in their day. And also, pretty tame and luxurious by today’s standards. More pictures below; however, these lingerie relics deserve a close-up look at WGACA’s new temporary outpost at 440 Lafayette.
