Miami Swim Week: Day 3

Highlights of the day include SwimShow, the Mara Hoffman fashion show and street style in the Design District.

We kicked off our jam-packed day at SwimShow, held at the massive Miami Beach Convention Center. Australian-based Lisa Maree (center) first caught our attention last year at Sydney Fashion Week with her fresh take on crochet swimwear. While Maree has perfected the 70s Boho swimsuits, the addition of leather-infused cover ups, prints and structured pieces signaled an edgy, contemporary direction for the label.

Next we stopped by Nicolita (right) for an interview with designer Nicole Di Rocco. The Cuban American designer enraptured and touched us with tales of travels back to her homeland and about the rich cultural influences in her work. A transcript of the interview will be available later in an exclusive report. The compelling story, combined with the designer’s passion, heart and soul, has us looking forward to tonight’s sure-to-be-fun runway show.

One of the standout men’s brands we’ve seen so far at SwimShow is Papi (left). The label has built their reputation on colorful, printed underwear; and that playful, energetic tone strikes just the right chord in their new line of swimwear.

The Mara Hoffman show (right) is consistently the hottest ticket at Miami Fashion Week, and the designer lived up to the hype this season with her techno take on tribal and Egyptian imagery.

From the Raleigh Hotel, we cabbed it all the way to the tip of Miami Beach for the Shay Todd show (left) at a private mansion. The impressive yet intimate setting gave us a chance to chat with the talented designer, hobnob with a few celebrities and get a close-up look at the glamorous collection of suits and cover ups.

As always – from the Convention Center to the Design District – we were on the lookout for the best street style in Miami. Our fashion muses of the day include (from left to right) the dapper founder of Papi, an adorable and artsy sales associate at Marni, a sales agent for Chach clad in Trina Turk printed pants, and a sun-kissed beauty at the Tomas Maier store.
