PLAY TIME New York: Citing Cindy Sherman’s Clown Series as a central reference for his C/R 13 collection, Marc Jacobs set forth to rifle through the proverbial “dress-up trunk” of what could only be the most mad-cap of improv theatre troups. The twirlable skirts, and shimmery knits of which little girls’ dreams are made were realized in a saturated palette of primaries, secondaries, and vegetals. Intentionally hyper-eclectic, the collection dabbled in large-scale Scandinavian/Marimekko motifs on cotton, sequin-interpreted Liberty of London-esque florals, and boldly colored lace appliqués. Like an astounding parade of Sherman’s clowns appearing from a tiny car, this resort presentation most certainly packed a plentiful punch. —Kibwe Chase-Marshall
