COMME des GARCONS Junya Watanabe MAN line presents the second installment to their unique collection: an Indigo Dyed 5 Pocket Sweat Pant.
Collaborations of this caliber and quality are what really set apart ordinary designers and ones like Junya Watanabe and brands like COMME des GARÇONS. Japanese fashion designer Watanabe, who has been working under his own name as part of COMME des GARÇONS since 1992, began collaborating with Levi’s quite a few years ago. Since then they have been releasing some interesting and innovative interpretations of classic jeans, with their new Indigo Dyed 5 Pocket Sweat Pant being the latest installment.
This is a denim chameleon – what appears to be the same exact cut for Levi’s famous denim is actually not denim at all. The look-a-like sweat pants are printed with the texture of vintage 501XX that has been scanned. The weft features a popular COMME des GARÇONS Junya Watanabe MAN touch with a contrasting pattern. To further the confusion, zippers, buttons, stitching and leather patches are made from real parts but pockets and belt loops uses the cotton jersey fabric.
Jog jeans, denim track pants and the general trend in denim towards super-comfort have been emerging over the past few seasons. Trompe l’oeil denim has been interpreted by Japanese brand, About the Abstraction, as well as denim dynamo, Diesel.
