Marika Vera: Lynch Ladies

We stopped in London en route to the Paris shows for boutique trade event Lingerie Collective. The well-curated show consists of intimates up-and-comers and established yet fiercely independent brands from the UK and beyond – pretty much all the cool designers you’ll find in Salon International de la Lingerie’s Be Spicy section, and then some. All in the intimate surroundings of Soho’s The Vinyl Factory.

One of the highlights of the show was Mexico City-based brand Marika Vera, who, to our knowledge, isn’t showing anywhere else this season. As longtime admirers of label, we are familiar with its architectural sensuality – the lush lines of its silhouettes and seductive silk fabrics. For F/W 13, Vera presented her most fully realized collection to date. The range was inspired by the films of David Lynch (we knew we liked her for a reason). Named after Lynch’s lovely troubled heroines, from Laura Palmer to Nikki Grace (a personal fave), the serpentine chiffon pieces are meant to be mixed, matched and layered in endless ways. This turns sleepytime into the chicest time of the day – daywear, be jealous. Throw in some femme fatale scarlett, Hollywood-glam curls and the wood-paneled walls of any seedy Lynch motel room, and you’ve got the most magnetizing collection of the season. Journey down this rabbit hole, if you dare.
