We’ve made it no secret how much we love Mad Men here at Stylesight – us, along with maybe 80% of the population. The show has become the subject of much in-depth analysis, from the music (How about Roger Sterling’s trip-out to the Beach Boys?) to the evolving mid-century interiors. Inspired by Sally Draper’s super-chic kiddie wardrobe, we’ve decided to focus on something a little bit more niche at Intimate Details: the sleepwear.
The shot of papa and daughter Draper, above, triggered images of Ed Ruscha’s surprise cameo in Band of Outsiders’ S/S 2012 campaign and these fun popsicle-printed pajamas from Giles Deacon’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection, respectively.
The frilly seafoam babydoll Sally Draper wore in the eerie “Mystery Date” episode is what initially inspired this blog post. It brought to mind Richard Nicoll’s S/S 2012 collection, which, appropriately enough, was based on patterns of girls’ nighties from the 60s.
Perfectly pressed and tailored even in bed, Don Draper sports pajamas that are not unlike styles classic brands like Derek Rose and Brooks Brothers currently carry. It also reminded us of “Retro Recreation”, a trend based on mid-century leisurewear that we explored in our Holiday 2012 Design Capsule.
