The shortlist has been announced for the much-coveted Prix Pictet photography prize for 2012 under the theme Power.
Announced during Les Rencontres d’Arles, the celebrated festival of photography held each year in Arles in the South of France, the award will be complemented this year by a major exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, showcasing all twelve photographers.
The shortlisted artists have been drawn from ten countries, such as Belgium, South Africa, Vietnam and Spain, and include U.S.-born Robert Adams, Mohamed Bourouissa from Algeria and Rena Effendi from Azerbaijan.
This is the fourth cycle of photography prize since 2008, an initiative that endeavors to address issues of sustainability and “confront the most pressing social and environmental challenges of today.”
