Stylesight’s Graphics Team was mesmerized by the work of Monika Traikov, a talented graphic designer working from Toronto. Her graphic and collage artworks experiment with computer aided techniques while focusing on subjects of memories and nostalgia.
The images are kept abstract and disjointed in order for her audience to personalize them through their own memories, while still communicating Traikov’s own past. The photographs are digitally manipulated via pixelating, shifting, layering and stretching elements of the frame. The inclusion of abstract shapes and warped areas illustrates her twisted interpretation of blurred memories and the way memories often become fragmented.
“The works explore the illusion of memories and nostalgia, reflecting a constant yearning for the past, often in an idealized or distorted form. The way we remember moments are often glossed over, or warped in a beautiful way. Often, feelings, colors and emotions are remembered more than the tangible.” – Monika Traikov.
Traikov has created posters for social events, including music concerts and comedy shows. She has also produced album covers for bands like Pyrenees and Lyra and created designs for magazines the likes of The Toronto Globalist.
