Following the recent exhibits of the same name, Taschen’s latest tomé, “Fashion Designers: A-Z,” features photographs of over 500 garments from the collection archives at the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology.  Arranged as an alphabetical, rather than chronological, survey of influential 20th and early 21st century designers, this collaborative effort authored by [FIT Museum Director & Curator] Valerie Steele and [IHT Fashion Critic] Suzy Menkes  presents and dissects the significance and relevance of each particular piece and the designer/designers’ place in history.  From Dior to Rodarte, there is no proverbial stone left unturned.  Both Steele and Menkes weigh in on the rise and role of the fashion museum in contemporary times and the significance of the Museum at FIT and its role in “…fashion scholarship and preservation.”

Available as a series of 6 limited designer editions of 2,000 (11,000 total), each book is enrobed in printed cotton by the buyers’ chosen source of fashion vice, so to speak- whether that’s Prada, Stella McCartney, Akris, Etro, Missoni, or Diane von Furstenburg.  A clear plexiglass case both protects and reveals the print on the bookshelf. The Prada version is available in 4 different prints from iconic collections of recent seasons.
