An examination and exhibit on the rising importance of vintage and second-hand clothing opens this Friday, December 7th, at the Prato Textile Museum in this charming Tuscan town known for its textile and knitwear manufacturing industry.  Vintage: The Irresistible Charm of the Past [or Vintage: L’Irresistibile Fascino del Vissuto] features over 120 garments, accessories, and fabric samples from renowned Florentine archive A.N.G.E.L.O. vintage and the Textile Museum archives, chronologically organized into four different sections that address everything from antique costume and textile design to Mod fashion and the directional work of 80s and 90s masters like Thierry Mugler and Martin Margiela, as these more recent eras become equally important to collectors and design professionals for contemporary inspiration.  The exhibit aims to celebrate “…vintage as a real social phenomenon” and will be accompanied by an eclectic event schedule through May 2013 to include cultural events, vintage markets, and more for exhibit-goers and fashion professionals.  For the duration of December only, museum attendees will be able to indulge in a little retail therapy as well, as an A.N.G.E.L.O-curated on-site shop will carry a host of iconic vintage apparel and accessories available for purchase.  We strongly recommend those who make it to Tuscany before the new year to check out the archive’s shop as well, located behind the Piazza della Signoria in central Florence.
