We continue our S/S 13 trade show coverage from last week with a look at two of Berlin’s most contemporary fashion trade shows – Premium and SEEK.
Premium kicked off another successful season in sunny Berlin with choice collections, international newcomers and exclusive trend-driven products. The S/S 13 season brought with it a wave of inspiring high-color denims, punchy laundries and innovative digital prints that pushed denim forward in a new and unseen direction.
Premium regular Paige built upon its legendary fits with a surf-inspired collection of photo-real sunrise prints, destroyed denims and indigo burn-outs. Twenty8Twelve showed no signs of dampening ambition since the break-away of founders Sienna and Savanna Miller earlier this year. Vanessa James and Elsa Elphick, two members of their original design team, charged forward with a younger approach than previous seasons, showing a mix of contemporary styles, super-soft sateen weaves, and allover prints. Paisley and marble emerged as a key print and laundry directions at the show, with labels like Nine in the Morning, Bleulab and Current/Elliott featuring them heavily.
SEEK continued to provide a natural and inspiring framework with its usual set-up and atmosphere in the Kühlhaus building next door to Premium. The ever-expanding show attracts some of the most interesting contemporary brands around the world, including Our Legacy, Indigofera Prima Jeans, The Local Firm, Velour and Soulland. This season also saw new additions to the modern brand list including new Australian denim label Rittenhouse, Danish brand Hans Kjobenhavn and the new collaboration between Billionaire Boys Club and Mark McNairy, Bee Line. Some of the key highlights to emerge for S/S 13 included Indigofera’s woad dye collection, the launch of British denim label Big E (look out for more info on the brand this week) and Our Legacy’s indigo-inspired denim story featuring sporty 50s zip-through denim jackets, embroideries channeling Japanese souvenir jackets, and hand-painted designs.
We’re currently putting together a full report from the shows that explores key denim trends, new surfaces, shapes and details. It is expected to go live next week.
