Renowned photographer Horst A. Friedrichs offers his inspirational take on the very best of contemporary denim style in this must-have collectors book.

Recently on the DDD, we have introduced our readers to a number of new denim books that have flooded the market. From Isko’s Bluemasters, to Emily Current and Meritt Elliott’s A Denim Story as well as more obscure takes like Mike Brodie’s insightful release that captures train riders, hitch-hikers and outsiders in some amazing denim styles.

Today though, we highlight a new release from vintage enthusiast and internationally renowned photographer, Horst A. Friedrichs. Some readers will recognise the name from his previous releases that include Drive Style, Cycle Style and 21st Century Rockers. This time round Horst turns his attention to denim, a fabric the photographer holds close to his heart. In his signature documentary style, Horst scours the streets, for this edition London exclusively, which he says is “Europe’s unofficial denim capital” looking for the most interesting and exciting examples of denim in the city. The book takes in all aspects of the thriving denim culture and the obsessives that live and breathe indigo.

Horst spent a lengthy seven months doing research for the photo project tracking down various people that worked in the industry, like specialist shop keepers, designers as well as plain old indigo fans. “In London it was like one big family, all the denim heads know each other. That was the nice thing about the project. You started off with a couple of people, and then everything just went like clockwork.” Local subjects shot in the book include a number of well known denim heads like Mohsin Sajid of EndrimeNicolai Sclater aka Ornamental Conifer, Darn + Dusted’s Luke Deverell as well as the capital’s only denim weaver in East London, Daniel Harris of London Cloth Company. Throughout the other pages you’ll find vintage, motor and cycle enthusiasts who all share the same passion for denim.

You can buy the book now at Amazon for £17.99. Below are some more shots as well as a short feature from Euromaxx TV on the book including an interview with Horst and on-set highlights of some of the people featured in the book.

A small number of my blog visitors have complained about my site not operating
