Citizen Hip: Bryanboy’s Top New York City Picks

From his early start in Manila, to his adopted home of New York City, here is a list of Bryanboy’s top picks of where to shop, eat and stay in the Big Apple.

Bryanboy is the pen name of Bryan Grey Yambao, a young style maverick who helped put fashion blogging on the radar at the tender at age of 17, and now sits front-row at international fashion shows with the likes of Anna Wintour. A world traveler who calls it like he sees it, he has been named an “internet celebrity” and is a bona fide example of today’s fashion generation. His online musings have even caught the attention of a Mr. Marc Jacobs, who went so far as to name a handbag after him—the BB ostrich bag–after Bryanboy gushed about it in his blog. From his early start in Manila, to his adopted home of New York City, here is a list of his top picks of where to shop, eat and stay in the Big Apple.

Soho Grand Hotel – STAY
310 West Broadway 10013 / +1 212 965 3000
Neighborhood: SoHo
It’s quite special and very unpretentious.  I like hotels where you feel at ease. The Soho Grand has been like my second home.  They have been so supportive of me, and I love how they also have all of these parties and events through the Grand Life NYC group.

Brunch at Balthazar – EAT & DRINK
80 Spring Street 10012 / +1 212 343 1274
Neighborhood: SoHo
It’s a ritual. Any and every day of the week, I just go there around 10am for their eggs benedict.  It’s an institution, really.

Lanvin – SHOP
815 Madison Avenue 10065 / +1 646 439 0380
Neighborhood: Upper East Side
I love the Lanvin store uptown.  I don’t really head uptown very often, but this is my reason to go.  I just love the items there — the SHOES! Their sneakers, their accessories, their necklaces, I’m a sucker for Lanvin T-Shirts and they’re the only things I can afford that are under $1000!

Fresh – SHOP
57 Spring Street 10012 / +1 212 925 0099
Neighborhood: NoLiTa
Their perfumes — Sugar Lychee — Oh my God it’s the best.  I think they only have it in America, nowhere else.  Fresh is my good place.

Lower East Side Vintage Shops – SHOP
Ludlow, Rivington, Orchard and Stanton Streets
Neighborhood: Lower East Side
There’s this row of vintage shops on the Lower East Side, around Ludlow, Rivington, Orchard and Stanton.  I really, really like it there.  The vintage stores in SoHo are also amazing, but kind of overpriced.  So I go to these for the affordable finds, a mix of high and low.
