THE FEMININE IS FUNCTIONAL
London: Christopher Raeburn made a name for himself as a menswear designer by focusing on a philosophy of lightweight utility and this Spring he seamlessly translated the concept to the women’s market for the first time. A few touches of laminated lace, some slim quilting, paneled construction and voilà—a new collection full of gorgeously feminine functionality. Channeling the military staples he loves into S/S 13’s shrunken parka liner vests, waterproof lace anoraks and paratrooper backpacks, Raeburn embellished these pieces with abstractions of vintage fighter pilot emergency maps as well as a subtle camouflage. Delicately edged in grosgrain ribbon seaming, the presentation found a pitch-perfect expression of sporty modernity.—Nina Stotler
