Paris’ Maison Européenne de la Photographie has recently unveiled their latest exhibition — a collaboration with the acclaimed actress and sometimes singer, Charlotte Rampling, entitled Albums Secrets. The show reveals Rampling’s longstanding yet sparsely-known relationship with the world of photography, where she serves not only as its muse, but also as a student and artist. The result is a graceful and feminine curatorial selection that features her own personal photographs alongside those of her favorite photographers.

The first room displays portraits of Charlotte Rampling by major photographers, including black and white shots by Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh, Alice Springs, and Paolo Roversi, as well as more colorful works by Juergen Teller, Jacques Bosser, and Pierre et Gilles.  Rampling reached deep into the museum’s archives for the second room, which features a carefully selected mix of self-portraits by some of her most admired photographers including Irving Penn, Peter Beard, Ralph Gibson, Marie-Laure de Decker, Duane Michals and Larry Clark, amongst others.  The last room focuses on her own work, with the mostly black and white photographs shown across four screens.  As the images pass, it gives the viewer the sensation of flipping through a virtual and highly personal secret album, devoted to a world full of children, travels, and nostalgia, all taken with Rampling’s deftly trained eye.
