Designers Markus Kayser, Philippe Malouin and Tom Foulsham have been awarded as winners of the W Hotel Designers of the Future Award, which was presented during Design Miami/Basel this year.

The competition theme ‘From Spark to Finish’ saw designers creating interactive light-based installations, including LIGHTzeit by Stylesight favorite Markus Kayser, a project exploring the changing cycle of natural light throughout the day, and Daylight by Philippe Malouin, a series of wall-mounted geometric lamps inspired by “plantation shutters”.  Tom Foulsham’s brilliant and simple The Go-Round project is a see-saw-like device that pivots on a point while envisaging energy forces, enabling visitors to be “propelled around” in various directions using objects that produce air, such as an electric fan.

Following Design Miami/Basel 2012, each project will travel to various W Hotel global destinations.  You can see our report from Design Miami/ 2011 here – These global forums compliment each other every June and December. – Samantha Fox
