THE BAND PLAYED ON
London: Antoni Burakowski and Alison Roberts sent a brass band down the runway to open their spring collection. It seemed an appropriate start to both their flamboyant show and to London Fashion Week, which is always notably free-spirited. The childlike squiggles and stripes on each of the looks were hand painted by the designers, sometimes overlapping (or being overlapped by) photorealistic prints featuring jewels or birds. Bright tones of pink, yellow, and teal added to the playful mood. The designers wisely kept the construction simple; tees, sheaths, and straight skirts allowed for the vibrant motifs to take center stage. –Joanna Manganaro
