Moncler Grenoble x Wollman Rink Central Park

Well folks, the Active Team had a real special treat this past Sunday night, as the worlds of fashion and sport collided together under the NYC stars. Moncler unleashed 180 professional ice skaters upon Wollman Rink in Central Park to showcase its FW 12/13 Grenoble collection. Words can’t really describe the magnitude of this fashion show, let alone the beauty.

The setting was like a magical winter wonderland, complete with the backdrop of New York City. Attendees sipped on hot chocolate — trying to endure the 25-degree weather — while they watched the story unfold…“Divided into three monochrome teams, they performed an impressive synchronized skating performance on the ice. Their movements were created by Luam, choreographer to celebrities such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, and Britney Spears.”

“Women’s garments are snug and form a cocoon like silhouette around the figure. Coats and jackets are designed as protective shells in Naplak, a classic material used for bags in the sixties. Glossy, lively and substantial, it is the evolution of the celebrated Moncler Laque. The color palette is neutral and conjures up a vision of mountains with hues of ice, stone and snow. Contrasting colors appear in navy blue and bright red.”

“For the Men’s collection, navy blue, snow white and fire engine red make their return to complement cocoa, anthracite and camel, displaying the meticulous attention that is paid to technical performance. As seen in other areas of the collection, hand-worked or inlaid wool garments evoke the feeling of homemade pullovers, that are coupled with a fleece lining so that they are cozy to the touch yet waterproof even in the snow.”

Our favorite point of the presentation came when the lights dimmed and the sounds of M.I.A’s brand new track, “Bad Girls” began to blare on the speakers while 100 or so female skaters – all dressed in monochrome shades of white and grey – began to skate in unison. Pure magic…
