Hunger Games – Active Edit

The Active team has been nerding out over The Hunger Games for MONTHS. We read all three books in less than two weeks while simultaneously combing the Internet for daily updates, new trailers and of course any clues as to how the movie would play out. Heck, we even went to an archery range in LA to test our skills with a bow and arrow. When opening night finally arrived, we waited in line with teenagers and their moms, sporting a signature braid, a windbreaker and hiking boots. Like proper adults, we ate popcorn and nachos, and eventually even cried a little, as we watched the story we had envisioned come to life.

So of course, like any normal Editor, we daydreamed about what Katniss Everdeen was wearing from an Active perspective. Thanks to the keen eye of costume designer Judiana Makovsky, the film is loaded with real-life, outdoor-influenced, apparel and accessories — from daypacks, climbing rope and carabiners to technical shells with retro-reflective accents and durable boots. The Hunger Games successfully showcased a range of essential items one would need to survive outside for any extended amount of time. That being said, we thought it might be fun to imagine “WWKW” (What Would Katniss Wear?) if we were given the opportunity to dress her in the arena…
